Hello, my name is Jeff Schmatt, owner/photographer of RUBICON PHOTO, and a Cedar Rapids, Iowa native. RUBICON PHOTO was created in the Fall of 1995. RUBICON PHOTO specializes in individual portraits, family groups, commercial, and event photography.

My journey into photography began when my favorite aunt gave me a Polaroid camera as a child. It was in college that I made my move across the Rubicon with the decision to make photography a permanent part of my life. I now have eight years of professional experience in the photo industry.         

My ambition is to create images for my clients. Photography is my passion and I love to make memories for families and friends to share and cherish for a lifetime. I take great pride in my artistic work and strive to listen to customer's needs and involve them in the creative process. An illustration of my philosophy: When photographing children, I feel it is important to capture the child's personality. To do that, I will go with the family to a park or be with them in their home. This creates a more relaxed and natural setting for their child's personality to shine through. I also take some extra time and meet with the children to get to know them, and they become familiar with me.

In commercial and special event photography, my goal is to provide affordable and high quality photographs to promote an image. In event photography, each activity has it's own flavor, and it is my job to document and tell the story pictorially. I provide projected cost information by working with each client one-on-one, making sure to stay within their budget. Commercial photography has been known to be very expensive. However, I have had much success offering affordable photography without compromising quality.

Another aspect of my philosophy is never asking a customer to buy anything unnecessary. I avoid the package concept, and I always allow my customers to choose the prints they desire. Rubicon offers full service for presenting your photographs, such as affordable custom framing, folios, and folders. I also provide special artwork retouching, computer scans, and computer-enhanced products. Whatever their needs, I do my best to help my customers present the best image possible. I aspire to produce the best value in my art form.
